"The activists from Dubrovnik, Rhodes, Santorini, Corfu, Paphos in Cyprus and Venice claim that cruise ships and the huge rise in Airbnb lettings are pushing up rents, forcing out local people and killing off the communities in their towns and cities. “We are victims of our own success,” Marco Gasparinetti, the Venetian activist who organised the meeting, said. “We are losing residents and our heritage is vanishing — the very things people come to see.”
