Greece, SYRIZA: Panagiotis Lafazanis, The Power Behind the Throne?

Interview (in.gr)

Update: Keep Talking Greece  on the new Presidential candidacy nomination

"One of the claims is that the “Left Platform” component of SYRIZA raised objections to Avramopoulos candidacy “because he had voted in favor of loan agreements” and it proposed a candidate from the center-left. Fact is that Minister of Productive Reconstruction, Environment and Energy, Panagiotis Lafazanis had indeed visited the Prime Minister Sunday afternoon. The government spokesman vehemently dismissed the claim of Left Platform objection".

Panagiotis Lafazanis (Wikipedia):

"Lafazanis is the leader of Syriza's Left Platform, and has been involved in a number of disputes with the more moderate party leader and present Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras. He has called "for SYRIZA to [be] swept by a new wave of radicalization in all areas, ideological, political, programmatic", opposing "the Troika, memoranda, neoliberalism and finally capitalism itself", and has spoken against continued Greek membership of the euro, describing the European Union as "totalitarian". Spiegel Online (January 2015):

"Panagiotis Lafazanis, the leader of the influential left-wing of the party, has been clearer in his statements. 'We want to exit the euro and a complete break with the totalitarian EU,' he announced".
